Ninety-six percent of all New Year’s resolutions fail within two weeks. But don’t worry, there’s a better way.

New Years Resolutions have been marketed to us as the best way to start our year on the right track. In fact, it’s a sure-fire way to add unnecessary pressure to our lives and miss all the best parts of our past.

This is the life we make and it deserves a patient and loving approach to the growth we see for ourselves in the year ahead. Rather than hurriedly committing to new resolutions on the first day of the year let’s give the year ahead the thought and attention it deserves. Take all of January and mine the gold from the beautiful and painful experiences from the past year. Remember to treasure the moments we’ve shared with loved ones as well. Be gentle with yourself and take however much time this process needs.

Let’s take this time and ask ourselves what we’ve gained from our past? What have we learned from our mistakes? How have we grown and what are we ready to say goodbye to?

Consider what changes are truly aligned with our passion, and what might just be a trendy idea. Giving ourselves the time and space to think a little longer allows for clarity and direction, which is precisely what we need for the year ahead.

In my podcast episode LIFE: 070 Getting the Gold from 2019 I’ve shared some helpful prompts to journal on. These questions have helped me reflect on the direction I want for myself year after year. I hope they help you in this new decade as well.

To living our lives in passion and starting the year off right.
